1st World War - Western Front

The battlefields of the Western Front in France, where so many of our forebears gave up their lives, are an intensly moving experience, and are so accessible being a short journey from Calais (ferry) and Lille (Eurostar). In addition to the museums and military history, which saw the development of air and tank combat, the Commonwealth war cemetaries add a moving and beautiful extra dimension. Work by Edwin Lutyens, Charles Sargant Jagger and Gertrude Jekyll amongst others make these memorable living works of art.

Hugh leads tours to Ypres, Pashcendael, Arras (also a World War 2 battlefield), Cambrai and the Somme.
